"Christ
the Lord is risen to-day,'
Sons of men and angels say.
Raise your joys and triumphs high;
Sing, ye heavens, and earth reply."

The
Lent and Easter Season is an important time
of reflection, culminating in a joyous celebration
of the resurrection of Christ.
During Lent, beginning with Ash Wednesday;
we offer weekly services in addition to Sunday morning
that offer an opportunity to gather for prayer and reflection. On
Palm Sunday, we begin the walk through Holy Week as we
celebrate Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. We
focus on the Passion story in a Tenebrae service (service
of shadows) on Maundy Thursday, and continue reflecting
on the sacrifice of Jesus during Good Friday worship services
using prayer, Scripture, and song.
Lent and Holy Week culminates in Resurrection
Sunday, with joyful worship celebrations using choirs and
instrumentalists as we celebrate our salvation through Jesus
Christ. It is our desire at First Church to make the
dramatic events of Jesus’ suffering, death, and resurrection
come alive in new and relevant, personal ways for worshippers
during this important season in the church year. |
