A Christmas Cantata - A Call to Christmas
Sunday, December 14th, 2008
Is it not a blessing that we celebrate our Lord’s birth in December? It
always comes at just the right time: in the bleak of winter when days
are shorter, nights are colder, and memories of springtime and crisp,
clear fall days are fading. It is then that Christmas comes sweeping
into our lives with song and celebration.
On Sunday, December 14, 2008 the Festival Choir, soloists Alicia Hall
Moran and Koby Ofori and a full orchestra of professional musicians joined
forces to present A Call to Christmas, a wonderful collection
of compositions based on familiar Christmas carols with Scripture narration
read by Rev. Al Grimm. These carol arrangements by Joseph Martin,
Robert Shaw and Robert Russell Bennett helped walk us through the Christmas
story, from the prophecy of Isaiah to the birth of Jesus. The choir
was prepared and conducted by Patricia Grimm, Director of Music, and the
orchestra was conducted by Dr. Marcia LaReau.
