2004 - A Christmas Festival Concert
with 25-piece orchestra
Sunday, December 5, 2004 at 4:00pm
The seasons of Advent and Christmas
evoke images of family and friends gathering together to celebrate
the birth of Christ with good cheer and the exchange of gifts.
How appropriate then to bring together the musical forces of the
First Church family for a special concert dedicated to the music
of the season, and how much more appropriate to include the audience
in the music making.
The audience was in fact one of the featured performers
in this concert. Along with the choirs and accompanied by the orchestra,
the audience joined in a number of familiar carols, including
a special arrangement of "Silent Night."
Our soloists had a long association
with First Church and are accomplished professional performing artists
outside of the church community as well. They were the featured performers
in the previous year's inaugural First at First
at Four series.
The orchestra was made up of professional
musicians from the area brought together especially for this concert.
They were also featured in the program with their own selections.
Douglas Kostner was the director
of music at First Church in 2004. He received the BMus and MMus degrees
in organ performance from the Manhattan School of Music, is a Fellow
of Trinity College of Music in London, and an Associate of the American
Guild of Organists.
