Chancel Choir – August 29

The Psalmist tells us, Come, let us tell of the Lord’s greatness; let us exalt his name together (Psalm 34:3).  What a joy it is to proclaim God’s love and faithfulness together – it’s good for the church, and good for us as individuals.

Get involved in something with eternal value that will nourish your heart, mind, and soul, and be a blessing to others – consider joining a choir!  If you want to test the waters, and give choir a try, we invite you to join us for the mini-retreat, Sunday, August 29, 11:15-2:30.  Lunch is provided in the choir room, followed by devotions and an afternoon of singing and fellowship. If you’d like to get a feel for what goes on behind the scenes in choir, this is a great opportunity to hear what we’ll be doing for the next couple of months.

Regular Chancel Choir Rehearsals begin Tuesday, August 31, 7:45-9:00!
Call or e-mail Pat Grimm for more information: 860-573-1249, pat.grimm@sbcglobal.net

Book Club – September 15

Hello book club friends!
Our first selection for the fall will be Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese. We will meet on Wednesday, September 15 at 7:30 in the Lounge. Everyone is welcome, and you are encouraged to invite a friend. Childcare will be available. I will email you a reminder in early August, so you’ll remember to get the book in time for September.

Publisher’s Weekly (Starred Review)

Verghese turns his formidable talents to fiction, mining his own life and experiences in a magnificent, sweeping novel that moves from India to Ethiopia to an inner-city hospital in New York City over decades and generations. His weaving of the practice of medicine into the narrative is fascinating even as the story elevates and surprises with the power and coincidences of the best 19th-century novel.

Happy summer reading! Dianna Shattuck

Church Conference – September 20

Part of the Council Ministries Meeting on September 20th at 7:30 PM in the Lounge will be devoted to a Special Charge Conference to elect a new trustee by written ballot. The Committee on Nominations and Lay Leadership has put forward Randy Kinder as its nominee. The committee is very excited about Randy serving in this capacity as it is something Randy has a passion for. Randy is well known to the Church as he has served as the chair of finance and a member of the Council on Ministries.

Women’s Day Apart Retreat – September 25

You’ll want to mark your calendar now for our annual Women’s Day Apart Retreat which will be on September 25, at the Convent of at St. Birgitta’s in Darien, from 9-4 pm.

"How Does Your Garden Grow?"

Join us for a day of discernment and discovery, using the garden as a metaphor for our spiritual life. What needs weeding and pruning with some new discernment techniques?  Where should we water with scripture?  What kind of prayer fertilizer should be applied?  What blossoms or fruits of the Spirit are we trying to cultivate? Enjoy a day "apart" in a peaceful setting, while exploring some spiritual practices that will make your "garden" flourish.

We are happy to once again have Sheila Pheiffer as our facilitator. The fee for use of the facility and provided lunch will be approximately $40. Watch for more details and sign-up information in the next Crier.
