AN UPDATE FROM THE TRUSTEES…
Over the past 6 months the Board of Trustees & the Property Committee has been diligently working on several projects to maintain and improve our Church home.
PARKING LOTS & SIDEWALKS. We are hope that everyone has noticed the major improvements to our Church’s parking lots & sidewalks. In the process of assessing our situation we decided to not only completely tear out the exiting paved areas but to make some desired improvements:
- The Cross Road entrance is now handicap accessible as the exiting step to the paved area has been eliminated
- The “circle” has been re-configured and the paved area has been widened to make it easier to pass parked cars. New sidewalks grace the circumference
- The Main entrance has new sidewalks and an enlarged handicap ramp from the paved surface
- The south side lot, by Fellowship Hall, has been reconfigured to allow for better access and maintenance
FELLOWSHIP HALL KITCHEN. A new commercial stove has been installed in the Fellowship Hall kitchen. This “short-term” measure will allow for simple food preparation while the Council & Trustees discerns our longer term desires and needs. Thank you to the Korean Church’s contribution which covered the entire expense.
SANCTUARY IMPROVEMENTS. Earlier in the year modifications were made to pews in our Sanctuary to allow for more flexibility in accommodating those who are in need of additional space. While initially thought of as serving physically handicapped members, the areas have been embraced by some of our parents with infants and strollers. Thanks to Marilynn DiSalvo for undertaking the project to shorten the pew cushions.
Just last week, the project to remove the first row of pews was completed. This proposal came from Pastor Doug & Pat Grimm. It is an effort to allow for more flexibility in that area of our Sanctuary.
OUR THANKS! None of these projects would have met such successful conclusions with out the tireless efforts and attention to details from our Property Committee and other volunteers. They deserve a huge round of applause and thanks. Specifically on these projects, we thank Ray Engleman & Mark Shattuck who orchestrated the paving & concrete work on the sidewalks. Pete Dyer, aided by Clem Williams, Brad Hardisty, Dan MacDougall & Tony Parenti, wrestled out the old 2 ton stove, installed the new. Pete and Dan removed and found a new homes (Room 20 for the front pews, outside the Choir Room for the halves) and re-installed the knee wall. Please forgive us if we have forgotten anyone – we are blessed beyond measure!
