About the Young Artists’ Showcase |
|
The FIRST @ FIRST @ FOUR Young Artist Showcase recognizes the tremendous talent of young performers throughout Lower Fairfield County. It was developed to nurture the dreams and celebrate the excellence of our next generation of artists. This year’s concert will be held May 3, 2009, at 4:00 P.M. in the Sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church. Established in the spring of 2004, the Showcase grew out of a perceived need for public performance venues in the lower Fairfield County area. Over the years, organizers and audiences have been amazed and inspired by the gifted young people who have performed at this popular event. "This show succeeded in bringing different parts of the community together in exciting ways," recalls the Rev. Dr. Douglas McArthur, senior pastor of host First United Methodist Church. "There's extraordinary talent in Fairfield County. We wanted to bring more of it to light. When we did, we were astounded and blessed by the passion, dignity, and outstanding artistic gifts the students displayed." Interested in participating? Teachers and parents of aspiring musicians, ages 5 through 20, are encouraged to send their students for an audition. Auditions will be conducted at FUMC on Saturday, April 4, and Sunday afternoon, April 5. Registrants will be informed of their exact time slot, and we ask them to arrive 20 minutes early. Registrants must bring their own accompanist, if needed, and audition with the material they expect to perform. Duos, trios, or other groups are encouraged to apply. Six minutes is the maximum performance time allowable, and music must be memorized, except for instrumental ensembles. All kinds of instruments, vocalists, and all types of music are welcome. Three professional musicians, including the director of music at FUMC, will listen to the applicants. The process is simple. Please read and follow the two steps below:
Deadline for registration is Tuesday, March 31. Audition winners will be notified on or before April 15. Generally, 14-16 performers will be selected for the concert. Questions? Please email mtrem333@optimum.net. This year's Young Artist Showcase renews our commitment to encourage and celebrate tomorrow. We are anticipating another great day, and hope you will join us! |
